PHM Commandant Bouan Mission IRINI 2021

Le 15 novembre 2021, le Patrouilleur de haute mer (PHM) Commandant Bouan a appareillé de Toulon afin de rejoindre l’opération de l’Union européenne EUNAVFORMED IRINI.

Lancée le 31 mars 2020, cette opération vise à faire respecter l’embargo des Nations Unies sur les armes à destination de la Libye avec des moyens aériens, spatiaux et maritimes, mais aussi à empêcher l'exportation illicite de pétrole de Libye, à contribuer au renforcement des capacités et à la formation des garde-côtes libyens et, enfin, à lutter contre le trafic d'êtres humains.

L’engagement de la France dans cette zone d’opération n’est pas récent puisqu’elle s’est engagée dès 2015 avec ses partenaires européens dans l’opération de l’Union européenne EUNAVFOR MED SOPHIA. Avec la fin de cette opération en 2020, la France a décidé de maintenir son engagement dans la zone pour concourir à la stabilité régionale, en rejoignant ses partenaires de l’Union européenne dans le cadre de l’opération EUNAVFOR MED IRINI.

Le Commandant Bouan est le 4ème bâtiment de la Marine nationale à participer à cette opération. Durant sa patrouille en Méditerranée centrale, le Commandant Bouan pourra être amené à la fois à interroger des navires de commerce, mais également à effectuer des opérations de visite sur les bâtiments désignés par le commandement de l’opération.

Operation Eunavfor MED IRINI

Thanks to the #FrenchNavyWarship FS COMMANDANT BOUAN, her Commanding Officer Commander #BenoitRENIE and his #Crew, did a great job in Operation EUNAVFORMED IRINI with strong commitment, implementing the UN Arms Embargo on #Libya imposed by the #UnitedNationsSecurityCouncil and fighting illegal activities related mainly to arms trafficking and secondarily to Oil and human smuggling in order to support the enforcement of the #InternationalLaw in the #MediterraneanSea .

#FSCOMMANDANTBOUAN left the area of operation in mid December, upon successful accomplishment of her 1 month’ high value participation – achievements including 24/7 hard and diligent work even in severe/adverse weather conditions, always with high operational rhythm, fighting spirit and eagerness to contribute to such a noble cause protecting IRINI’s European and global values.

#FSBOUAN strong contribution and posture was not limited to but also included use of its #Boarding team and even stretching her abilities to their limits in benefit of the mission, in addition by numerous hailings/interrogations and #FriendlyApproaches (visits on MVs upon MV’s Masters consent) – interactions with MVs.
